Erosion is the breaking down of the Earth's surface by the action of wind and water.


For example, erosion of a mountain as particles of rock and soil are broken off by wind and water will eventually lead to it becoming a small hill!


Erosion always happens in a downhill direction - the eroded matter is not lost, but moves ever more downhill.
