Spellings, Sounds and Meanings (in area 14 at Project HappyChild) takes a whole new look at the English language. We have streamlined this resource so as to be able to have room for the free worksheets for all the different sound groups. The sound files for all sub-groups in the Sounds Database are now on line, and linked from the index pages for each individual sound.
All the separate "main types of word sound" are shown in the Sounds Database below; lots of words "sound the same" but have different spellings dependent on individual meanings, so the Sounds Database just represents what the word "sounds like" regardless of how it might actually be spelled. Each word falls in the category relating to the stress when the word is pronounced - eg "chemistry" is in the "em" sub-group because the stress in the word falls on the "chem" syllable.
23rd February 2008: 2500+ free worksheets for writing/spelling, wordsearches, dictionary meanings, sentence construction and creating crossword clues have just gone on line, linked from the main Sounds Database below. Also available are blank templates which can be used for creating your own additional worksheets for specific sound sub-groups, if wished.
The template worksheets for poems, mc lyrics, lateral thinking etc. are on line and linked below, and can be used for any type of sound in the Sounds Database; our new (separate) area for free dual-language translation worksheets is on line here.
