Corel WordPerfect Suite 8 ..... Penny's notes. |
I should preface this section by saying these notes don't come from Corel -
they're the ones I made in the early stages of using this program, whilst still
trying to fathom out how everything fitted together. Most of the time I didn't
use the manual - just trial and error - and I'm putting the notes on line in response
to requests from people who have bought the software at academic prices [and who therefore didn't receive manuals as part of the
package]. Some of the preliminary notes are general ones to give Internet-novices
some basic ideas of how to set up a website - so even if you're using another
software package you may find some helpful ideas here and there.
It was in May 1998 that Channel MarketMakers gave Project HappyChild WordPerfect Suite 8 to
build our web pages (initially they also arranged our "academic status" with Corel
in Canada) - and our site couldn't have been built without this package. Whilst the
capabilities of the software probably vastly exceed the way it's being used on our
site, it fulfils virtually all of our requirements and I'd recommend it to any
aspiring page-builders without hesitation.
Most of our pages (aside from the Directory ones, Schools Interchange index
pages, the Index to Free Educational Resources, and Bricks and Mortar) have been
built and uploaded inside an hour. Even allowing for the many hyperlinks backwards
and forwards, it isn't nearly as difficult as it might seem initially.
To access the notes, click on "Part 3" below. You should be able to print these
pages direct from screen (select File [top left of your browser] and Print).
Schools, registered charities and state education departments should be able to obtain a full
copy of this software (without manuals) for Ł39 plus VAT and carriage. Contact Corel Canada - https://www.corel.com/en/ - for details of
your nearest UK or international supplier of Corel products at academic prices.
I trust the notes will help to get you started on page building. I'll also include
some brief insights on how to meta-tag your pages (for the search engines) and
how to set up your Directory structure in case you're planning a site as big as
ours :)
I would also comment that accomplished programmers probably have better ways
of achieving some or all of what's included here - but these notes are written to
be simply understood, identifying particular problems that new site-builders might
experience, and the solutions I myself found along the way.
Enjoy your page building!
Penny
