TIME AND SPACE

Although there are lots of "themes" or "discipines" of education,
what is often missing is a "framework" to put the information into.
Where is the "overview", the whole picture, that puts into context
the "bits of information" we all learn? We couldn't find an
easy-to-use overview *anywhere*.

So we thought we'd build one! and that's what you'll find below. Human development from thousands of years BC, the initial slow steps forward, often separated by thousands of miles or thousands of years, but gradually building into an inter-connected mass of "progress" across so many different themes and geographical areas.

What we've ended up with, a little surprisingly perhaps, is an extraordinary picture of "time and space", mapping human progress over many thousands of years and highlighting some of the major developments that have been fundamental in creating the fast-paced, interconnected world we share today. You can see not only "how things are now" but also track back on the individual timelines of how things developed in different areas.

This page is, if you like, a "snapshot in time" of our global community today - HERE and NOW - whilst simultaneously tracking back to "how we got here" ..... not only geographically across the surface of the sphere of Earth but also historically through the passage of time.

And dually it provides the "big picture" for children to assimilate and then slot other bits of learning into. We've made our "snapshot" page as brief as possible - but there's an extraordinary depth of information in the linked resources that will help build a much more complete picture ..... a spherical framework for information storage.

After that it's all just "filling in the gaps"! On this site we aim to offer kids - all kids - the BASICS of education - how to read, how to add, subtract, multiply and divide, how to do fractions and percentages, exploring spellings, sounds and meanings, easy ways of learning foreign languages ..... just the basics.

Most kids instinctively WANT to progress, and to learn - if they're only shown HOW. "Time and Space" provides a backdrop framework for the wide range of themes they will learn over time - at school, at home, and elsewhere - and equally, provides access for children everywhere to the *same* framework. So kids in a tiny village in some isolated area of the world, with just one computer, can work on the same themes as the poshest school in the most affluent area ....

"Time and Space" has probably been the most complex resource of all to put together! and it's taken a good deal longer to create than anyone expected. But worth it, in the end! We hope you will find it of value :)
