AREA 8: SYNDROMES LINKS

where to find help for kids
your help in publicising this project is much appreciated

This area of the Project HappyChild website is designed to enable you to find help for various conditions which children may experience, or to give information about areas in which help is available in one way or another.

If the organization is within the Project HappyChild Directory, the link will take you to the page where it is listed (there is a full Index to the Directory for easy reference across all organizations and a copy of the Directory can be printed free from screen - see Directory cover page).

If by any chance you can't locate the resource you're looking for, take a look at the Contact a Family on-line directory of specific conditions and rare disorders (see under Rare Syndromes below), or the other global resources listed for rare conditions, or try going to Yahoo, select advanced search, then "exact phrase", and key in any relevant words (eg respite care children disabilities saskatchewan] which should bring up a list of links specifically relevant to your search.

Please also see individual Directory entries for booklists and other specific resources available (some free, some not).

We receive many hundreds of requests from organizations supporting rare syndromes, for listing on this page - due to the need to keep this page at a manageable length, we would request you contact the relevant rare syndrome network for your geographical location [see "rare" links below] and ensure you are listed there, so that our visitors can find you :)

ABLEDATA is a federally funded project [USA] whose primary mission is to provide information on assistive technology and rehabilitation equipment".

ABLEDATA - publications & fact sheets

"ABLEDATA does not produce, distribute or sell any of the products listed on the database, but does provide you with information on how to contact manufacturers or distributors of these products." [Mike Andrews]

Over the past 9 years the Foundation has developed a unique information unit. The archives, originally sourced as research materials, or in response to external enquiries, now serve as a comprehensive collection of information about all aspects of brain injury and related matters.
Cerebra - Foundation for the brain injured child "Our resources are freely available to parents and families of brain injured children, professionals working in the field, or in fact anyone with an interest in the subject. Our library holds approximately 3000 titles, about half of which are available for postal lending. We also subscribe to a number of Journals and hold back-issues to many of the important titles focusing on paediatric neurology, and we can supply photocopied extracts from the reference section for personal study."

COT DEATH

[NZ site but has outlets in the UK, Australia, the USA, Canada + Asia (all addresses/tel.nos. on the site)]. Julee Oakley (UK contact) wrote to us: "It is vital the public obtain Dr Sprott's guidelines to ensure correct type polythene is obtained for the purpose of cot death protection and that the mattress is wrapped correctly and securely to his specifications. We are happy to send this information free of charge - (stamped) sae appreciated where possible."

Visit the extraordinary website COT LIFE 2000 - established by Dr. Jim Sprott - T J Sprott OBE, MSc PhD FNZIC, Consulting Chemist and Forensic Scientist who campaigns actively for the endorsement of mattress-wrapping and associated measures for cot death prevention - "Mattress-wrapping for cot death prevention, which has been publicised in New Zealand for over four years, has had a 100% success rate ... there has been no reported cot death among the tens of thousands of babies who have slept on mattresses wrapped to the Cot Life 2000 specifications."
