Re # 3172, in Fire Red and Leaf Green you don't give him water, you have to go to the building in Celadon City, the one between the Pokémart building and the Pokémon Center. You talk to the old lady on the first floor and she gives you tea and that is what you give to the guard and he lets you pass.

This is another "note for new visitors", as help about the location of Valley Windworks has been sent in already.   At the top and bottom of the pages in the Cheats area, are blocks that go from A-Z (all lead to the "sundry" area). Clicking on V (for "Valley Windworks") will get you to the page here. On that page (at time of writing) there are two listings for Valley Windworks - # 4245 and # 4246. Clicking on the first one will get you to # 4245 ... which tells you that Valley Windworks is "east (right) of Floaroma town" (R205, we've been told). Hope this helps :)

I would like to tell you about three legends in Sinnoh.
1. You know that Harbor Inn in Canalave City? A Member's Pass will open the door, giving you access to Darkrai. He is at lv.40.
2. You know that polished rock north of the Victory Road extension? An Oak's Letter will make Oak go there. After you write something on the stone, a path will appear. At the end is Shaymin. He is at lv.30.
(3) You remember the Spear Pillar where you caught Palka/Dialga? Well, playing an Azure Flute there will make a staircase of light that leads to Arceus. Depending upon which of the 16 plates around Sinnoh you put on him, he will change type. He is at lv.80.

Thanks for sending this in :) however it seems to sound a lot simpler than it actually is :/
(1) First of all, we're told the Member's Pass is only obtainable from a Nintendo Event, or via Nintendo WiFi (Wii / DS) after Mystery Gift has been activated. And before using the Member's Card to access the Harbor Inn, you'd need to have found Cresselia and obtained the Lunar Wing (required to dispel nightmares).
(2) It seems that "Oak's Letter" is only available in Platinum (and again only via the Nintendo route as above). As far as we understand it, when you've written what you're most thankful for, on the stone, the Seabreak Path will appear (by which the Shaymin arrives, before going north to the Flower Paradise where it can be caught at Lv 30).
(3) Rumour has it that the Azure Flute is even harder to obtain (again via Nintendo) than the Member's Pass and Oak's Letter :/ though using it at Spear Pillar should indeed provide the staircase that leads to the Hall of Origin and to Arceus.

The Plates to change Arceus's type are apparently given away by the Captain of the SS Aqua, one each time the ship sails – however it's said to be required that you have all 16 badges first (plates can be obtained from other locations but we don't know how the badge requirement applies there).
Draco Plate (dragon) * Dread Plate (dark) * Earth Plate (ground) * Fist Plate (fighting) * Flame Plate (fire) * Icicle Plate (ice) * Insect Plate (bug) * Iron Plate (steel) * Meadow Plate (grass) * Mind Plate (psychic) * Sky Plate (flying) * Splash Plate (water) * Spooky Plate (ghost) * Stone Plate (rock) * Toxic Plate (poison) * Zap Plate (electric) *

... The three items above (Member's Pass, Oak's Letter, Azure Flute) are only (so far as we're aware) available from Nintendo, by one route or another. There's a fourth item in the set – the Secret Key, first of the four, actually – which is said to open Rotom's Room at the Galactic Eterna building in Eterna City, and give access to five items that enable Rotom to change to another form.

We've included all the above info to clarify what was said in the e-mail sent in, just so getting these items doesn't seem more straightforward than it actually is. Plus to provide as much related info as we can, given this page might actually be the final Cheats page we add at Andy's Guide to Pok€mon :/ See the news page – main Cheats index page – for more details.

As far as we know, you can only get Groudon in Emerald after beating the Elite Four, and you will need to ask the man at the Weather Centre how to find the Terra Cave. You have to find it quickly or it will change location (it should be on the shore-line somewhere). Groudon (L70) should be in Misty Cave which you get to via the Terra Cave.

For Crystal (maybe gold and silver but I'm not sure), here's a step-by-step guide for capturing the Unown: 1. Go to Violet City. 2. When you reach the city's gym, go southwards to the path. 3. Keep going until you reach an upside down "T", go left. 4. Go through the building, then go upwards to the second cave. 5. Go inside. 6. When you first enter, you should see a wall in the middle of the room. Go toward the left side of the wall. 7. Fix the picture (hint: it is a Kabuto). Make sure the picture is right including the marks. 8. You should fall right through the floor. 9. You notice that the people are not there (because they are terrified of the Unown). 10. Walk around and you should encounter a wild Unown.

1. I have found that while using the itemfinder, your character will turn in the direction of the item. when you are standing right above it, and use the itemfinder, it will say that there is something right underfoot. Then move one space across or up then face where you were standing, and press A.
2. This works with all pokeballs: press A and then B repeatedly and that should make the catch rate higher.
3. Some items are just not allowed to be deposited.

Please see QA0013 re use of button combinations.
1 and 2 above sound about right – however, in terms of not being able to deposit certain items, I believe this is just down to your bag being full as opposed to Nintendo designing items you're not actually allowed to have. Andy.

In Fire Red, the usual place to find rare candy is in the rock tunnel, it's easy to get to so follow the steps. First go through the entrance, keep straight, then turn right, then once you have passed one of the trainers in the entrance, you go down and you will see another trainer. Then keep going till you hit the wall, afterwards turn right again and keep walking until there is a trainer right in front of you, then go straight ahead and there should be a poke ball with rare candy in it.

A good tip for training your pokemon: make sure you feed your pokemon Carbos regularly. Carbos increases a pokemon's speed, which helps drastically in pokemon battles. I've especially found a high speed stat being useful when my pokemon's HP is low, so you can get the final blow in before your enemy. Trust me on this one, it helps.

There have been quite a few questions about how to get REGISTEEL, REGIICE or REGIROCK in Emerald, because these are different from Ruby + Sapphire. We thought it was simplest if we put the answers all in one place, so we've used info from a number of e-mails to get the details for all three. This is as accurate as we can get this! but it should be enough for you to find all of them (all should be at Level 40). Thank you to *everyone* who sent in bits of information that forms part of what's below.
Take R134 to the Diving Spot. Read the Braille [our on-site Braille guide is here] and use DIG and a door will open. Read the Braille then put Wailord first in your party and Relicanth last (this is the opposite way round from Ruby and Sapphire, see # 3163) and read it again. There should be an earthquake followed by the doors opening.
Regirock's cave is in the south of the Desert - when you get there, read the inscription and then go two steps to the left, two steps down and then use Rock Smash – the door should open so you can battle Regirock.
Regiice's cave is on R105 - when you get there, do the reading and then go round the cave clockwise, staying by the wall as you go round. When you have done the full circle, the door should open so you can battle Regiice.
Registeel's cave is on R120 - when you reach it, do the reading and then go to the centre of the room and use FLASH - the door should open so you can battle Registeel.

In response to all the tips referring to getting past Brock, the simplest way I find (in yellow) is to catch a Nidoran (male or female however I recommend male because he learns horn attack instead of scratch at lvl 8) and train it up to lvl 12, where it will learn double kick (a fighting move super-effective to rock pokemon). This also works for red and blue but nidoran (either) needs to be at lvl 14 to learn double kick. I choose Nidoran over the Butterfree method as Nidoran, then Nidorino and later Nidoking is a much more useful pokemon later in the game. Hope this helps anyone struggling out of the starting blocks =)

This is just a tip for PLATINUM: If you are stuck in Pastoria Gym and you either have Empoleon or Infernape then the best way to beat them is to get a Tropius from the Pastoria Great Marsh and train it lots, then keep battling Pastoria Gym Leader Wake until you beat him. The really easy way is to get your starter to lvl 42 and teach it Close Combat if Infernape or Ice Beam if Empoleon and keep using it against Floatzel if you're having trouble with him (he's hard) or Gyarados if you're having trouble with him. We've had quite a few questions along the way about the different "generations". Just to clarify things, below is our understanding of the main items that the different Generations include:
GENERATION 1 – red + green (JP), and blue (JP) – then Red, Blue and Yellow (English), plus Pokémon Stadium.
GENERATION II – Gold, Silver and Crystal, plus Stadium 2
GENERATION III – Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald, plus FireRed and LeafGreen, plus Colosseum, plus XD
GENERATION IV – Diamond, Pearl and Platinum, plus HeartGold and SoulSilver, plus Battle Revolution, plus Pokémon Ranch
GENERATION V – Black + White.
We've included cheats/help for as many as possible of the above games, these past ten years, on the site here :) certainly the ones people wrote in about the most. Anyone who has found their way through the main games by means of all the help messages everyone has sent in, should be able to successfully find their way through the other games and whatever else Nintendo has planned for future generations : D

Not tested here, but "text speed to fast" and "battle scene to off" sounds logical, and worth trying. Not sure though about "battle style to set", which might just prevent you from switching Pokémon at the start of a battle so as to gain experience points for beginning Pokemon (see # 2036). Andy.

In the years since the Cheats area at Andy's Guide to Pokémon first started, there have been many mail problems - and quite a few computer crashes - and we'd like to say sorry to anyone whose messages have got lost along the way .... just remember you can *always* re-send, and hopefully now that we have a more guaranteed way for info to reach us here, we'll find a way to get most or all of the genuine info on line :)     We very much appreciate the support that all of you give this site.
