Cheat/Tip/Shortcut: Get TANGELA: You don't have to catch TANGELA in the SAFARI ZONE. Get SURF, go to Pallet Town, SURF to the right, you will find a patch of grass. Walk around in it and you will find TANGELAs in the 30s (level). You can also find RATICATEs and PIDGEOTTOs in there.

Cheat/Tip/Shortcut: I know of a cheat that you do not have is on my game I can catch a MEWTWO on CINNABAR ISLAND by flying to VIRIDIAN and talking to the man that asks are you in a hurry then you fly to Pallet then to CINNABAR then back to Pallet then to Viridian then to PEWTER CITY then to Cerulean then to LAVENDER TOWN then to VERMILION then to Fuchsia then back to VIRIDIAN; talk to the man again, say no again, and then fly to CINNABAR again and SURF up and down the west coast and you should run into a level 128 MEWTWO . This is on my blue version and one thing to keep in mind is I tried this cheat with my friends' games and it didn't work so it might not be guaranteed - and one very important thing is you can not have already caught MEWTWO level 70 from the Unknown Dungeon or this cheat will not work. This might only be compatible with blue versions, a good tip for catching MEWTWO is use the multiplying cheat for the MASTER BALLS and catch him with one of them. By the way I had 6 letters in my name when I did the MISSINGNO cheat.

Andy: I have caught a MEWTWO on my version and I am still able to get MEWTWO on the side of CINNABAR ISLAND. I have done this on the red and blue versions.

Cheat/Tip/Shortcut: The fastest way through Silph Company - To do this you need a Pokémon that can DIG. First you enter, then go to the 5th floor and go left until you see some bushes/trees. Go down but don't go on that portal simply go down the narrow path and beat the Team Rocket guy.

Then go to the portal after you were transported, and go back in that portal. Go down one step then go right and pick up the CARD KEY (which is the POKÉ BALL). Then if your Pokémon needs healing, DIG out and heal at the Pokémon center. Then go back in the building and go to the 3rd floor. Defeat the guy from Team Rocket.

Go to the left open door with the CARD KEY and go in the portal and you will see Gary your rival. Beat him, then talk to the guy and he will give you a LAPRAS. Then go into the other portal and go down and beat the guy from team rocket and go fight Giovanni. But only fight Giovanni if your Pokémon are in good health!!! then talk to the guy in the room and he will give you a prize!!

Andy: Good information but I have a guide to that section in my walkthrough already.

Cheat/Tip/Shortcut: I agree that finding different Pokémon over Level 100 is all to do with what name you register yourself as. I was amazed to find this out too! I have found these: SARVAN = MAROWAK and GOLDUCK ; SAV = ALAKAZAM ; BRANDON = SNORLAX and very rarely MEWTWO's.

Cheat/Tip/Shortcut: Umm...this isn't really a cheat but I just wanna point out to your walkthrough that when you begin, if you go into your house (after all the formalities of choosing your name etc) and upstairs into your room, and log on to your computer, you'll find a POTION - and also, en route to VIRIDIAN, there'll be this guy walking up and down on your right (after a bit of grassland), if you talk to him, he works at the Pokémart and also gives you a POTION as a sample... Hope it helps!

Andy: Thanks - yes, this is good information, but when I wrote the walkthrough I put a guide on there as to how to complete the game: it isn't that I'm not aware of all these other things but I only included the things that people need to complete the game.

Cheat/Tip/Shortcut: I heard a cheat that if you see 150 Pokémon and go to where you got EEVEE, you will find MEW. Is this true, or is it just a rumor? I'm trying it out myself, but if anyone can confirm it, I'd be very grateful. If you've actually caught 150 Pokémon, does that mean it won't work? I haven't tried this either I'm working on it.

Andy: I have heard this rumour as well, and I did not only get 150 Pokémon on my Pokédex, I got one of every single Pokémon but I was unable to find MEW anywhere, even where I got EEVEE. There will be a Mew cheats page coming soon to the Super Cool Zone. ** Update - New page linking together the info about MEW has now been added.

Cheat/Tip/Shortcut: I know you received a similar message.

Starting Pokémon: I suggest BULBASAUR. SQUIRTLE would be fine, too.

BROCK: If you picked BULBASAUR or SQUIRTLE, you should be fine. If you picked CHARMANDER, either keep using EMBER attacks, TRADE with someone who has BULBASAUR or SQUIRTLE (although it may not listen to you), or capture a CATERPIE and raise it to a BUTTERFREE.

MISTY: If you picked BULBASAUR, MISTY will be a snap. SQUIRTLE/WARTORTLE may have trouble, but will have good defence against MISTY's WATER-type Pokémon. If you picked CHARMANDER, you should probably catch a PIKACHU in VIRIDIAN FOREST and train it well.

Lt. Surge: BULBASAUR/IVYSAUR will have good defence against ELECTRIC type Pokémon. SQUIRTLE/WARTORTLE are in danger. CHARMANDER/CHARMELEON are fine, but will be less resistant. If you have SQUIRTLE/WARTORTLE, catch a DIGLETT or DUGTRIO that knows DIG. You should beat Surge pretty quickly.

Erika: By now, you should have more strong Pokémon. I suggest using a FLYING Pokémon like PIDGEOTTO or FEAROW, or a fire Pokémon, like VULPIX, NINETALES, GROWLITHE, or ARCANINE.

Koga: Use a PSYCHIC or BUG Pokémon, like PARASECT or KADABRA. Keep in mind that ABRA can learn Psychic TM's, so you don't need to evolve it.

SABRINA: BUGs are the best Pokémon to use, especially BEEDRILL, even though it is also POISON. A few TWINEEDLEs and PIN MISSILEs should do her Pokémon in. If you use BEEDRILL, take a REVIVE or two, just in case.

BLAINE: If you went to Seafoam Islands, or have been fishing, use a WATER Pokémon. You could also try GRAVELER or ONIX. DUGTRIO would be a good choice, too.

Giovanni: Giovanni is very easy if you have the right stuff. Keep in mind, though, that he tends to teach his Pokémon weird TM's. For instance, NIDOKING might use THUNDER against your BLASTOISE or SEADRA. So make sure to bring a lot of types, and make sure they're really strong.

Elite Four: Use a good variety of types. My team is: ARTICUNO, ZAPDOS, MOLTRES, PIDGEOT, VENUSAUR, and CHANSEY. CHANSEY is not a good Pokémon to fight with, but if you teach it SOFTBOILED, it can save your Pokémon's butts. Be sure to teach PIDGEOT FLY, because it will do really well against Agatha's GHOST Pokémon. Also, don't let it forget MIRROR MOVE, which could really come in handy.

Andy: I have put this up because there is useful information in here, and it helps people get an overall picture of how to do things easily. See also No. 2035.

E-MAILS: due to ongoing problems with mail getting through to here, we've made a * mail form * you can use to write to us.
In the years since the Cheats area at Andy's Guide to Pokémon first started, there have been many mail problems - and quite a few computer crashes - and we'd like to say sorry to anyone whose messages have got lost along the way .... just remember you can *always* re-send, and hopefully now that we have a more guaranteed way for info to reach us here, we'll find a way to get most or all of the genuine info on line :)     We very much appreciate the support that all of you give this site.
