Of course there's been a lot else going on here over the long period since the last Newsletter! where do we begin?
ACCELERATED LEARNING - we're delighted to say that Michael Tipper's latest Feature Article has just gone on line. Our thanks go to Michael (currently very busy with speaking arrangements and seminars) for finding time still to write articles for the site - it seems incredible that it's been ten long years since he first started writing for us, back in 1998.
EVENTS CALENDAR - the 2008/2009 Events Calendar is on line, with links to constantly-updated events pages on a number of children's charity sites. Please support (or raise funds for) any of the charities featured on the site, if you're in a position to do so, and have found the free resources here useful! The Project HappyChild Directory features children's charities across the UK helping children in various ways, and the international Projects helping Kids area highlights charities working in many countries worldwide.
SPELLINGS, SOUNDS + MEANINGS - the long-awaited worksheets are now on line for this area - over 2000 worksheet pages for writing/spelling practice, crossword clues, dictionary meanings, wordsearches and use of words in sentences, all accessible via the 'Sounds Database'. Alongside the ready-made templates for poem writing, making crosswords, lateral thinking and writing MC lyrics. Our thanks to Mario Becroft in New Zealand who has made it possible for the thousands of Sounds Database worksheets finally to go on line.
SOL'S GUIDE TO HARRY POTTER - a huge amount of work has gone into creating the full set-ups for keyword linking across all chapters of all seven books (eg see the 'Book 1' area), and you'll also find reviews of Book 7 - Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - and Film 5, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Visitors to this area may wish to check out the Special Note added on 1st July 2008.
ANDY'S GUIDE TO POKÉMON - we can only say thank you to all the many children and teenagers whose help and input over the last seven or so years have made this area what it is. We've created several massive Pokédexes and interlinked all the help sent in with the overall structure of this area - take a look at the Red, Blue, Yellow Pokédex for some idea of the extraordinary depth of information now available. Needless to say this remains a hugely popular area of the site as a whole.
KEYWORDS FOR LEARNING - more word search puzzles have now gone on line - our thanks again to Mario Becroft in NZ, who not only does the output pages for this area but also designed the wordsearch-generation program we use. 180 puzzles on line so far! and more likely to follow, early next year.
AREA 11 has been upgraded, to house the areas for Countries A-Z, Islands A-Z and USA State Counties, and links are now in place from Countries A-Z not only to Schools Interchange (linking to over 200,000 schools) and to Projects helping children in countries right across the world, but also to the free language worksheets area/s now spreading across the site. A work in progress :)
"TWAM" - TOOLS WITH A MISSION - a Christian Charity which sends gifts of good quality tools to many countries - has been linked from the resources required and surplus items pages - tools are greatly needed in less-developed countries and it is good to be able to highlight an organization working to meet this very real need. The TWAM site also has a request page for schools to help with gifts of 'scholar packs' (paper, pencils, calculator etc.) for less fortunate children in other countries.
