Project HappyChild NEWS 1st June 2001 [for ongoing updates, see Latest Site News] |
| Hi there! All going well, this Newsletter will be en route somewhat earlier than usual, mainly because our ISP is switching to "FRIACO" on June 1st. No-one knows quite how all this will work, and bearing in mind the many problems when SurfTime first materialised last year, we've reorganised things here to get the Newsletter out ahead of schedule, in case there are any communication problems over the next few days. |
| NEW PAGEBUILDING [supplementary resources]: A fair proportion of May has been spent largely on concerted pagebuilding for the free-to-print French resources on the site - five areas have been completed: school subjects, sport, clothing, medical and classroom. The first three are now linked in from the main French index page; medical and classroom are still in the third checking stage but should be on line in a few days. It's becoming apparent what a mammoth task the French area is! - but we should get there eventually, given a following wind. Our thanks to everyone who's written in about the free worksheets recently.
Incidentally, for the time being only the Freeway mirror within the Project HappyChild site has been updated; the other two mirrors for this area will be updated as soon as time allows. |
| SITE UPGRADES: The main Project HappyChild welcome page has been re-designed to include more focus on the advertisers whose funding makes this website possible, along with links to our Sponsors page, the "Give Water" organization and the latest chapter from Lance Winslow III's book, "How to run a successful Car Wash Fundraiser".
Chapter Five of this excellent book has just gone on line here - this Chapter, "Day of Event", gives an extraordinarily-well planned out resumé of all the many parameters of a successful event, making it easy for even inexperienced fundraisers to plan systematically, step by step, to cover all the required bases. Lance Winslow III's business acumen shines through and it's entirely clear why his firm "The Car Wash Guys" has done so well - and why so many dollars have been raised by fundraisers following this well-thought-out guide. Across the rest of the site here there have been a number of changes to create more focus on the Schools and Appeals areas which link children across the world, whatever their circumstances, and we've also updated the main "publicity page" to incorporate the latest developments on the site, and our thanks to anyone who prints this off and sticks it up on a noticeboard somewhere! |
| PROJECT HAPPYCHILD DIRECTORY: The Children's Trust [1042 in the Project HappyChild Directory] has a new website which we have linked from their directory entry. If you have a cached or printed-out version of this page, you may wish to update this.
In the context of help for children, we've also been advised of a specific information resource for parents of brain-injured children: The Rescue Foundation for the Brain Injured Infant has been added to the Booklists page - over the past 9 years the Rescue Foundation has developed a unique archive of information about all aspects of brain injury and related matters. Their resources are freely available to parents and families of brain injured children, professionals working in the field, or anyone else with an interest in this subject. They have a library of approximately 3000 titles, about half of which are available for postal lending. We've also included a reference to their international parents' network on the Syndromes Links index page. |
| ACCELERATED LEARNING: Michael Tipper had planned to write articles all through the year, after last year's burst of e-mails when he took his usual June/July sabbatical ..... but events have overtaken him rather, he's swamped with speaking engagements and memory training presentations for schools and commercial firms, and additionally he's in training for a ten-day run in aid of a charity helping children, scheduled to take place in June. So the usual June/July break from article-writing has to take place, and all going well Michael's next articles for the Accelerated Learning area will be on line at the beginning of August 2001. |
Because of the rather-unscheduled "early Newsletter" there are still a few items in the pipeline for addition to the website - including CRUMP [Campaign to Recycle Unwanted Mobile Phones] - if you have an old phone somewhere, don't throw it away but send it somewhere useful, to help disadvantaged children. Full details should be up on the site shortly, if you're able to check the Latest News page within the next few days.
Best regards,
Penny. ****************************************************************** |
