Welcome to Area 6

NEWS AND VIEWS

"News and Views" includes a wide range of themes and there are several regions in Area 6 - Projects helping Children worldwide, the latest News of everything happening across the site, the website Guestbook [including a number of appeals for help], FOCUS, where we throw the spotlight on items of interest to schools, parents and children, Creativity [stories, artwork, poems, articles, jokes and a large selection of Aesop's Fables], and some interesting articles from Kathryn Watts about the lifestyles of kids in other countries.

The Projects Helping Children Worldwide area has recently been massively overhauled and added to [there's now a colour-coded alphabetical index to countries and regions], and we've created new index pages for the different continents, along with links for organizations like SOS Children's Villages and a number of projects in India including child fish workers and the Bethany Home for destitute children. Any support any of you can offer for organizations like these would be much appreciated :)

Our thanks to all visitors to Project HappyChild who responded to the Appeal (on site from December 1999) from Scott McDonald, Task Force Falcon, USA, for supplies, such as pens, pencils, crayons, paper for the school sponsored by the 709th MP Battalion in Kosovo. Scott McDonald's follow-up letter is included on the previous Appeal page.

The original story in our Creativity area - "Glaxibel The Avenger" still receives many page views - schools are welcome to nominate moral stories on their websites which they would like to share with other children and teenagers across the world - please note however that any URL addresses submitted need to be "unchanging" for the foreseeable future.

Project HappyChild is for ALL children - Areas 1, 6, 12 and 13 provide somewhere for kids to share their creative output and what interests them, and Areas 3, 4, 5, 10 and 14 provide or link to a vast range of free educational resources. The Schools Interchange (Area 9) is designed to enable schools to link through established school-nets in areas right across the world.

Area 2 (the Directory) and the Syndromes Links Index (Area 8) detail resources available for disadvantaged or ill children, and the worldwide Projects Helping Children section in Area 6 highlights specific help needed for kids in various parts of the world. Many kids have unbelievably awful existences in comparison with the lifestyle most of us take for granted.

We'd welcome your active support for the many organizations featured in the Directory, and for those involved in worldwide Appeals and Projects. We'll be adding to these as we gradually build links with more children's charities worldwide.

Schools who wish to support less fortunate children by fundraising will find ideas for raising money in Area 7.
