OPTICAL FIBRES

Optical fibres are thin fibres made of a glass core, surrounded by a reflective cladding and an outer moisture-proof buffer layer, which use the principle of total internal reflection to transmit light along the fibre.


Optical fibres have advantages over metal wires: they are not susceptible to electromagnetic interference, they can be bent smoothly, and there is far less signal loss.
