GENERATING ELECTRICITY

Electricity required for domestic and industrial use is produced at power stations by large generators.


Power stations use other forms of energy (eg chemical energy from coal, nuclear energy from nuclear power) which are transformed to produce alternating current, usually through making them operate rotating devices - such as turbines - which convert mechanical energy into the alternating current.
