Steel is an alloy of Iron metal with a small percentage of Carbon (usually about 1%).
Steel is stronger than iron and can be more malleable. It is produced by a combination of heating and cooling iron (which naturally contains some carbon impurities within its structure) and either allowing this carbon to burn off, or, alternatively, adding more, until specific percentages of carbon are achieved ( the more carbon, the harder the finished steel, but also the more brittle).
