ORGANIC COMPOUNDS

Organic compounds are all chemical compounds which contain carbon, excluding carbonates, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide or cyanides.


(This definition came about in the days when it was believed that these were compounds that could be made only by living things, which is now known NOT to be true, but the term "organic compounds" is still in use, because it is convenient.)
