Covalent bonds are the type of chemical bond formed between atoms when one or more pairs of electrons become part of the outer electron shells of both atoms, at the same time, allowing them both to achieve a stable configuration.
Examples of covalent bonds are the bond between two hydrogen atoms to form a hydrogen molecule (where one electron pair is shared) and those between two oxygen atoms, to form an oxygen molecule (where there need to be two shared pairs to reach the stable configuration).
