A chemical formula is a shorthand way of writing the name of a substance, in which the chemical symbols for the element(s) are used, and information about its chemical composition and structure are given.
Different types of chemical formula include: molecular formula, empirical formula and structural formula.
Each type of chemical formula shows different amounts of the total information, with the empirical formula showing the least amount and the 3D structural formula showing the most.
