Chemical energy is the portion of energy stored within matter which can be transformed into other form(s) of energy by a chemical reaction.
Chemical energy is, in fact, a form of potential energy, which is related to the arrangement of the atoms / molecules / ions in space.
Examples of conversion of chemical energy include: burning fuel (chemical energy transformed to heat, light and sound) and the chemical energy in your leg muscles being transformed into mechanical energy when you run.
