Arsenic is a naturally occurring element which is very poisonous to humans and other animals. It is usually found as compounds, which have no smell and no taste. Most arsenic compounds are also soluble in water.
The toxic effects of arsenic are caused because it interferes with the enzymes involved in various metabolic processes in cells, so resulting in multi- organ failure and, possibly, death.
One of the poisons found in cigarette smoke is arsenic.
