Vascular bundles are the longitudinal structures formed from the arrangement of the different transport tissues found in the stems and leaves of plants.
Typically, they consist of specialised water transport cells (xylem) and specialised sugar transport cells (phloem) together with undifferentiated cells (cambium), from which more such cells can be made.
In addition to their transport function, vascular bundles strengthen the plant because they are long and straight and their cells have thickened walls.
