SEWAGE

Sewage is the mixture of liquid and solid biological waste and waste water produced by human communities.


Raw sewage has an alkaline pH and is potentially very toxic because it contains high concentrations of poisonous organic compounds, particularly ammonium compounds and nitrates as well as disease-causing micro-organisms.


The safe treatment and disposal of sewage is, therefore, important for human health.
