Sense organs are organs containing specialised receptor cells which detect certain types of information within the environment and respond to this stimulation by sending signals to the brain via the nervous system, causing a response.
For example, the eyes contain light-receptor cells in the retina, which each respond to certain wavelengths of light by generating an electrical signal which travels to the brain via the optic nerve.
The result of these signals will be a return signal from the brain to the muscles of the iris, causing an increase or decrease in the size of the pupil, in response to the light intensity.
