Protista is the name used to group some of the simplest uni-cellular organisms which cannot be classified as bacteria, fungi, plants or animals because of observable structural differences they have from these groups.

Examples of protista include organisms called slime moulds and diatoms.

All protista live in water, or in watery environments.
