Isomers are forms of the same compound where atoms are differently arranged in space, because more than one energetically-stable state exists. They therefore have the same chemical formula, but different structural formulae.
Isomers are common in organic molecules, and this is the main reason why so many different organic compounds exist.
The different isomers of a molecule will have different physical and chemical properties: often these vary only slightly, but in some cases the variations can be significant.
