Insects are a class of invertebrates which are identifiable because they have a body divided into head, thorax and abdomen, three pairs of jointed legs, compound eyes and an exoskeleton made of chitin.
More than 1 million species of insects have already been identified and fully described, but it is thought that as many as 10 million species may exist
Insects make up 90% of all the different species on the Earth.
A few insect species have been domesticated, such as bees and silkworms.
