The circulatory system is the organ system responsible for moving the blood around the body of animals, allowing all the body's cells to receive food and oxygen and remove waste products.
Although the exact arrangement of the circulation varies between the different classes of animals, it always consists of one or more muscular pump(s) - the heart(s) - connected to a network of tubes - the blood vessels.
The tubes branch and spread out, gradually decreasing in size, until each body cell is in close enough contact with the blood that diffusion can occur into / out of it.
