All animal cells have the following features in common:

A cell membrane which forms the boundary of the cell and controls the passage of materials in and out of it.

The cytoplasm, which is the thick liquid that fills the cell membrane.

A nucleus, which controls all the activities of the cell and contains the DNA.

Mitochondria, which are structures in the cytoplasm where respiration occurs.

Ribosomes, where protein synthesis takes place.
