In the years since Project HappyChild first went on line in 1998, we've received many requests for free worksheets for learning English. Often from the tiniest of villages, in countries ranging across most continents .... Africa, Europe, Asia, South America ..... and later, from Iraq, where children were being repatriated from many different countries. The biggest question, here, was 'how could this be done'? But we've found a way.
Using the category structure already created for our "French" area, we've uploaded a whole set of any-language-to-English worksheets - 800+ free worksheets (linked below), across the whole range of vocabulary and a wide selection of verb conjugations. If a tiny village in (say) Thailand wants to teach English in its schools, it only requires *one* fluent Thai-English speaker to "fill in the blanks" for all the words on the worksheets and photocopy them for immediate use.
But - more than that - if the translator enters the translated words into a prepared verbs database or vocabulary database (both of which we can supply) already containing the English words, and if we get written verification (of accuracy of translation, and suitability for children) by a qualified language professional, we should be able to generate a complete set of Thai-English worksheets to go on line here within a few weeks of receiving the completed and verified database.
These would then be available on line (free of charge) for any school wishing to teach English to Thai-speaking children (whether those children are in Thailand or not). The same goes for any html-compatible language - and would enable teachers *anywhere* to teach English to all their students, regardless of where those students originate from. It would also provide worksheets to help English-speaking children learn the translated languages - eg our free French/English worksheets seem to be used as much in France and other countries where French is spoken, as they are in England.
All that's needed, to add worksheets for a new language, is for just two people who speak both that language and English fluently, to offer to translate or check around 4000 words or phrases each - please see the Translators page for details of site visitors who have already offered to help.
