FRENCH INDEX FRENCH - grammar - VERBS 09 GRAMMAR: INDEX

VERBS and PRONOUNS

Remember all those pronouns we met on PRONOUNS 01?

Columns 3 and 4 are quite straightforward - 'direct' and 'indirect' pronouns (note the word order in French for all these examples).

I gave (to) her the vegetables. Je lui ai donné les légumes.
I gave them to her. Je les lui ai donné.

However, if using an imperative (eg show me!) you need to use the ones in Columns 5 and 6 (the only really relevant 'changed pronoun' is 'moi').

Show me! Montrez-moi!
Give them (to) me! Donnez-les-moi!

One more proviso: if 'en' ('some of it', 'some of them' - meaning, in this case 'some of the vegetables') is used with the imperative, you're back to using the pronouns in Columns 3 and 4.

Give some (to) me! Donnez-m'en!

The free French verbs and vocabulary worksheets can be used for learning, practice and revision.
However, contact with someone who is fluent in French will help to ensure correct pronunciation.
