VERBS THAT TAKE "ÊTRE"
Most verbs in French make certain tenses using the verb "avoir" - eg see the regular ER verb, donner, "to give", in the perfect, future perfect, pluperfect and conditional perfect tenses.
However, a small number of verbs make those tenses (Nos. 4, 5, 6 and 8) using the verb "être". These are mainly specific "verbs of motion" as well as the "reflexive verbs", and are shown below. [Note that the four verbs with *stars* will use "avoir" if there is a DIRECT OBJECT - eg "he climbed THE STAIRS".]
Remember that the "past participle" [eg "entré"] of verbs conjugated with être, has to *agree* with whether the subject/s of the verb are (a) masculine singular, (b) masculine plural, (c) feminine singular, or (d) feminine plural.
