HOMES FROM HOME

It is a fact that seriously ill children are dependent on medical treatment which is only available at major hospitals, often far from their family homes. Our objective is to ensure that none of these children are separated from their families whilst receiving this vital treatment.

The Sick Children's Trust is a small, national charity founded in 1982, whose main objective is to provide support in the form of 'Home from Home' accommodation to families whose children are seriously ill.

We believe that keeping everyone together has several major benefits:

1) It contributes to a child's recovery and general well-being

2) It affords the family the opportunity to spend time together when a child is terminally ill; and

3) It prevents a situation whereby young brothers and sisters are separated from their sick sibling and their parents, allowing the stability and consistency of family life to continue unimpeded.

The Sick Children's Trust provides good quality, safe and secure accommodation for the whole family - free of charge - at some of the UK's finest paediatric centres:

Great Ormond Street Hospital in London - Rainbow House and Guilford Street House
St James's University Hospital in Leeds - Eckersley House
The Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle upon Tyne - Crawford House
Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge - Acorn House
Sheffield Children's Hospital - Treetop House
Royal London Hospital - Stevenson House

We feel that the families using our 'Homes from Home' must be able to retreat to stress-reducing, homely environments, and to this end we must staff and maintain these houses to an excellent standard.

The cost of achieving this is Ł640,000 each year.

We receive no government funding and rely solely on voluntary donations.
