WHIZZ-KIDZ

Whizz-Kidz is a national children's charity set up in 1990 to address the growing demand for mobility equipment for disabled children and young people. The charity improves the quality of life of disabled children and young people under 18 in the UK through the provision of customised mobility equipment such as wheelchairs and tricycles that are not available through the National Health Service. Whizz-Kidz is also dedicated to providing help and advice to the children and their families and raising awareness of mobility-related issues through national campaigning.

FACING THE WORLD

Facing the World is a UK-based children charity that offers facial reconstructive surgery to children with severe facial disfigurements who live in countries where they are not able to access the treatment that they need. Many children (particularly in the developing world) suffer terribly from the stigma attached to disfigurement. Most are unable to attend school, form normal relationships with others or undertake economic activities later in life. Where children have severe disfigurements multidisciplinary teams are needed and the medical infrastructure (MRI and CT scans etc) that are required to perform these surgeries safely are unfortunately not available in most countries. Facing the World's medical team all donate their services and we fundraise to cover the (reduced) medical costs, travel and accommodation for children and a parent. Most children stay in the UK for three months and all are able to leave the UK significantly better able to have "normal" lives.

PLAYLINK

Many children have nowhere safe and interesting to play outside. For some children, there isn't even space at home to make a noise, make a mess or have friends over. The most deprived children don't have a home of their own and they have even less chance to play freely. PLAYLINK helps people who want to set up and run adventure playgrounds so children can have a local place to call their own, to dig and climb, play games, build dens and meet friends. We also help schools to improve their playgrounds.

ONE PARENT FAMILIES SCOTLAND

Children in one parent families deserve an equal chance but may not get one because of poverty, social prejudices about one-parent families and a lack of services. We help children and their families by campaigning against prejudice, working for supportive government policies, and providing information and encouragement. We urgently need your help to allow us to assist the one in five children in Scotland in a lone parent family.

THE PRE-SCHOOL LEARNING ALLIANCE

What happens to children during their early years is very important. Through its 18,000 member pre-schools, the Pre-School Learning Alliance provides pre-school education and care for 850,000 children under five. In the safe and stimulating environment of a pre-school, children learn as they play with carefully-selected equipment and plenty of adult support. Each group is an independent part of its local community and most fundraise to keep fees as low as possible so as to avoid excluding families in financial hardship. Because we believe that each child has the right to develop to the full, our Help a Pre-school Child appeal raises money to provide subsidised places and to support the integration of children with special needs.
