CHILDREN'S COUNTRY HOLIDAYS FUND (Incorporated) ..... First Floor (rear), 42/43 Lower Marsh, Tanswell Street, London SE1 7RG.

The Children's Country Holidays Fund provides 10 day holidays in the countryside for underprivileged London children aged 5 to 12. Their backgrounds include poverty, neglect and physical or emotional abuse. Most come from one-parent families and overcrowded, poor quality housing; unemployment and financial debt are standard. Some children have never seen the seaside or the countryside before. None would have the chance of a holiday without CCHF or the generosity of supporters. Funds are always urgently needed - please help.

IRIS FUND FOR PREVENTION OF BLINDNESS (1965) ..... York House, Second Floor, 199 Westminster Bridge Road, London SE1 7UT. Patron: HRH The Duchess of Gloucester

The Iris Fund supports research into the prevention and cure of blindness and serious eye disorders. Our special "Infant Vision" project at Great Ormond Street is a highly-streamlined research, remedial and care programme for visually handicapped children. Over the last 12 years, some 7,000 children a year from all over Britain have had their sight restored or improved and we are obviously anxious that this excellent work will continue. We would also be grateful to receive used postage stamps or "left over" foreign coins, both of which can be turned into cash.

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD ..... PO Box 732, Wrexham, Clwyd LL13 9ZA.

Samaritan's Purse specialises in helping children to reach out and make a difference overseas. By far our biggest project is the Operation Christmas Child shoebox appeal. Hundreds of thousands of schoolchildren pack shoeboxes full of toys, sweets and other gifts, and give £2 to help transport them to needy children in Eastern Europe and beyond. By giving, our children not only help others, they also start to understand the joys of sharing what you have. Other projects include longer term developmental work, including the building of a hospice for child AIDS victims in Romania.

HUMAN SCALE EDUCATION ..... Unit 8, Fairseat Farm, Chew Stoke, Bristol BS40 8XF.

Human Scale Education promotes an approach to learning which is concerned with the whole child - the creative, emotional and moral sides as well as the academic and the physical. Key factors include the relationships within and the size of the educational setting. Children learn best in an environment in which they feel secure and supported - a human scale environment. We support parents and teachers who wish to set up their own schools. We are also working to encourage human scale settings in large schools.

deafPLUS (1971) ..... Prospect Hall, 12 College Walk, Selly Oak, Birmingham B29 6LE.

Deafness is an isolating disability, presenting real barriers when competing in education, work and social integration. DeafPLUS works to integrate deaf and hearing people through training, education, information and family contact. We also offer speech training to profoundly deaf children. When Laura, who is six, first used our specialised equipment she was delighted to "hear" the effects of her voice on the screen. She now understands that by making certain sounds the penguin will reach the top of the iceberg or the clown's nose will light up! Perhaps you would like to help us to help Laura and other children like her?
