THE FIRST NOEL The first Noel the angel did say Was to certain poor shepherds in fields where they lay; In fields as they lay, a-keeping their sheep, On a cold winter's night that was so deep. Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel, Born is the King of Israel. They looked up and saw a star Shining in the east beyond them afar, And to the earth it gave great light, And so it continued both day and night. Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel, Born is the King of Israel. And by the light of that same star Three wise men came from a country afar; To seek for a king was their intent, And to follow the star wherever it went. Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel, Born is the King of Israel. This star drew nigh to the northwest, O'er Bethlehem it took its rest, And there it did both stop and stay Right over the place where Jesus lay. Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel, Born is the King of Israel. Then entered in those wise men three Full reverently upon their knee, And offered there in his presence Their gold, and myrrh, and frankincense. Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel, Born is the King of Israel. Then let us all with one accord Sing praises to our heavenly Lord; That hath made heaven and earth of naught, And with his blood mankind hath bought. Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel, Born is the King of Israel. |
![]() ONCE IN ROYAL DAVID'S CITY ... Once in royal David's city, Stood a lowly cattle shed, Where a mother laid her Baby, In a manger for His bed. Mary was that mother mild, Jesus Christ her little Child. He came down to earth from heaven, Who is God and Lord of all; And His shelter was a stable, And His cradle was a stall. With the poor and mean and lowly, Lived on earth our Saviour holy. And through all his wondrous childhood, He would honour and obey, Love and watch the lowly maiden, In whose gentle arms he lay. Christian children all must be Mild, obedient, good as he. For he is our childhood's pattern, Day by day like us he grew. He was little, weak and helpless, Tears and smiles like us he knew. And he feeleth for our sadness, And he shareth in our gladness. And our eyes at last shall see Him Through His own redeeming love, For that Child so dear and gentle Is our Lord in heaven above. And He leads His children on To the place where He is gone. ![]() |

~ WHILE SHEPHERDS WATCHED THEIR FLOCKS BY NIGHT While shepherds watched their flocks by night, All seated on the ground, The angel of the Lord came down, And glory shone around. "Fear not," said he, for mighty dread Had seized their troubled minds; "Glad tidings of great joy I bring To you and all mankind. "To you, in David's town, this day, Is born of David's line A Saviour, who is Christ the Lord; And this shall be the sign: The heavenly Babe you there shall find To human view displayed, All meanly wrapped in swaddling bands And in a manger laid." Thus spake the seraph, and forthwith Appeared a shining throng Of angels, praising God, who thus Addressed their joyful song: "All glory be to God on high, And to the earth be peace; Goodwill henceforth from Heaven to men Begin and never cease." ~ |
