WORD GAMES
This month I am not going to look at a mnemonic but I am going to give you a word game that will stimulate your minds and might just require the use of mnemonics to remember it. The idea is to say each line of the following list to a friend and get them to repeat it back to you word perfect. So for example you say the first line "One hen" and in response your friend should repeat back "One Hen". Then you say "One hen and two ducks" and then your friend should reply "One hen and two ducks". So each time you speak to your friend you add another item onto the ever growing list of items and hopefully you will get the same response but as you play this game, you will see that it gets harder and harder.
One Hen -
Two ducks -
Three squawking geese -
Four Limerick oysters -
Five corpulent porpoises -
Six pairs of Don Alverzo's tweezers -
Seven thousand Macedonians in full battle array -
Eight brass monkeys from the ancient sacred crypts of Egypt -
Nine apathetic, sympathetic, aromatic old men on roller skates with a marked propensity toward procrastination and sloth -
Ten lyrical, spherical, diabolical denizens of the deep, who all haul stall around the corner of the quivvy of the quai all at the very same time.
My first introduction to this was by the American Memory Champion Tatiana Cooley who baffled even the current World Champion with a swiftly delivered version of this game. But once again, I must thank Dr C Taylor for providing me with the words. Have fun.
