WOLFGANG AMADEUS MOZART
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart had a remarkable musical talent and must rank as one of the leading composers of all time. Born in 1756 in Salzburg, his musical ability surfaced at a very early age. He was composing and performing at the tender age of six. He had perfect pitch and after hearing a piece of music for the first time he could write down all of the notes played from memory! He could compose musical scores in his head and then write them down flawlessly.
He worked as the Concert Master to the Archbishop of Salzburg and eventually became the Chamber Musician to the Emperor Joseph II. His most famous works are the operas The Marriage of Figaro and Don Giovanni, and his Symphonies in C Major, G Minor and E Flat. Sadly it was only after his death in 1791 that his genius was recognised.
What has become apparent about Mozart since his death is his extremely positive attitude to his work and the setbacks that he suffered. Surviving letters show that he was continually optimistic and full of self-confidence and it is believed that this significantly contributed to his success.
