ANSWERS to above questions:

1. Research has shown that Baroque Music produces exactly the right frequency and sound to harmonise the functioning of the brain and produce a state of calm relaxed alertness. A test on post graduate students demonstrated the effect of learning vocabulary with music. There were 3 groups the 1st heard a list of words with a background of Handel's water music and were asked to visualise the words. Group 2 heard the same list but with music only, group 3 only read the word list. Groups 1 and 2 had a significantly improved performance over group 3 and group 1 had a very significant advantage over the other 2 groups when tested a week later. This is why classical music plays such a big part in Accelerated Learning Courses.

2. Area 5 at the Project HappyChild website, "Bricks & Mortar", covers learning how to read and contains a great deal of information about English spelling rules. The index for the pages is at http://www.happychild.org.uk/bkm/notes/index.htm.

You could also start using mnemonic techniques to help you with your spelling. For example some people often put two "c"s in ACROSS. A way to remember how to spell across is to say to yourself " There is only one sea (one "c") across to America". If you already live in America, then you could change it to "there is only one sea across to Europe".

The best thing for you to do is to try and make mnemonics yourself along these lines because the very fact that you have tried to remember the spelling by using this technique will mean that you are more likely to remember it anyway.

3. Your question highlights a problem that many people have and that is the handling of all the information that we have to deal with on a daily basis. The best suggestion that I can give you is to learn how to Mind Map and then use that tool to help record everything that you cover on a daily basis. Believe it or not you should be able to get most of the key information on an A3 page if you pick the right key words and use pictures and images. Each of those key words will trigger the meaning behind its choice (for example if I say the word "sofa" to you, you will no doubt think of your own sofa - you can probably tell me where you bought it, how much it costs, the problems choosing it, where coffee stains came from etc etc - all prompted by the one word "sofa"). Then the secret to keeping the information is to review it after 10 minutes, one day, one week one month and then 6 months to get it into your long term memory. It requires a bit of effort and discipline but the rewards are worth it.
