BUZAN'S BOOK OF GENIUS
and how to
UNLEASH YOUR OWN
This month's article is all about the characteristics of genius so I thought it only fitting that I review a book all about genius and the source of much of the information that I have been sharing with you over the last year. Buzan's Book of Genius is of course written by Tony Buzan and Raymond Keene. Each of these men can themselves rightly call themselves geniuses. Tony invented Mind Maps® and has been ranked amongst the top five lecturers in the world. Raymond is an international Chess Grand Master and has written over 80 books on the subject.
The book is divided into two parts. The first looks at the development of mental skills, the characteristics of Genius (see this month's article) and key brain principles. Under the skill section it covers Memory, Mind Mapping®, Speed Reading, Creativity and the concept of a healthy body/healthy mind. It is a useful introduction into the fundamentals of excellence and for all you budding geniuses it gives action steps to help you improve in each area. A series of tests at the start of the section get you to understand where your current abilities lie in each of the 20 areas.
The second part of the book is the Hall of Fame where the top one hundred geniuses are described. Examples of some of the great men and woman of our time included in the Hall of fame are Alexander the Great, Bill Gates, Leonardo da Vinci, Einstein, Goethe, Elizabeth the First and Marie Curie. Tony and Raymond identify which of the characteristics of genius were the great strengths for each of those listed and also give examples of their achievements. This part makes a really interesting read because not only do you begin to recognise genius at work but it is a fascinating walk through the World's significant achievement throughout time.
At the end of the section the geniuses are ranked in order of their demonstration of each of the genius characteristics. So who do you think is the greatest genius of all time as defined by Tony Buzan and Raymond Keene? Well buy the book and find out.
Buzan's Book of Genius by Tony Buzan and Raymond Keene (ISBN 0-09-178551-0) is available from good bookstores at Ł14.99.
