The Learner's Pocket Book
If you go to any bookshop these days, you will find at the
counter a whole range of "Little Books" that give you bite
sized chunks of information and guidance to help you. The
Learner's Pocket Book by Paul Hayden is a small pocket
book as the name implies but its size is no indication of the
amount of quality information regarding learning that you
will find in its covers. It is an excellent summary of some of
the leading guidelines and popular techniques and strategies
in the memory and learning field. Divided into 8 sections
(Brain Power, Learning Theory, Reasoning, Planning,
Committing, Reflecting, Memory Tricks and Blocks to
Learning) it uses lots of useful diagrams and relies on key
word explanations making its contents much easier to digest
and remember than a conventional learning text book. There
is a very good section on Mind Mapping and at the very end
of the book there is a useful Master Mind Map that
summarises the content of the book. If you are a seasoned
learner and have a good knowledge of learning theory this
book will serve as a good summary of what you know but
equally if you are just starting to look into learning
techniques, this is a good place to start.
