YOUR MIND AT WORK
Developing Self-Knowledge for Business Success
This is a business book. So what is the relevance of a business book to a children's website? Well first of all why not read the following extract taken from the book's preface:
"No matter if you are 26 or 60, you now need to unlearn much of how you learned at school and university and relearn how to think and memorise.........".
I know that many parents read the Accelerated Learning Articles and Reviews and that there are many of you about to embark on a college or university career. This book is ideal for you to re-evaluate your thinking now if you are in the work place already and have been for some years. For the students among you, why not get hold of this book an get ahead of the game by developing a healthy self-awareness now? Wow! All this and I have not even told you what the book is about! Well read on and find out more.
As you will probably have gathered from the title and from my initial discourse, this book is about developing a healthy self knowledge appropriate to the work place. It's relevance to an accelerated learning site is that it integrates some of the concepts that I have written about elsewhere on the site (eg Mind Mapping, Left and Right Brain Thinking and Multiple Intelligences) into success in the work place. (If you are a student reading this, wherever I mention the work place, just substitute "college" or "university" because the skills and knowledge are just as relevant to that environment).
Divided into three sections, "Your Mind at Work" looks at how you got to where you are now, examines the controlling factors in your life and helps you look towards the future. Topics covered include beliefs, values, stress, personality styles, communication, your mission and goals. Every chapter has a summary Mind Map at the end making it easy to review and remember what you have read. You will find exercises on most pages and the benefit that you will gain from them will be in direct proportion to the effort you put in. And just in case you find yourself teetering on the edge of committing yourself to a new life of self awareness, the book ends with a 30 day Planner to help you integrate your new found knowledge into your work place.
This is more than just another Personal Development book. If you read and actively engage with the exercises it contains it will become a workbook that will help create lasting and fulfilling success in your life. However after you have read it and applied its teachings, put a note in your diary to read it again this time next year because developing self-knowledge is an ongoing process that requires continuous effort.
