MICHAEL TIPPER - a brief biography .....

Michael Tipper, who writes the
Accelerated Learning webpages for Project HappyChild, is a speaker, trainer, writer and part-time consultant.

Married to Julie for 11 years, they live with their two Yorkshire Terriers in South Gloucestershire.

Michael grew up in Shrewsbury, Shropshire, in the UK and joined the Royal Navy at 16. His early career was spent as an engineering apprentice, and he was selected for a commission in 1986.

He completed his degree in Engineering at the Royal Naval Engineering College, Manadon, and then specialised as a submariner serving in HMS COURAGEOUS and HMS SPARTAN. His time at sea took him all over the world but the latter part of his career was spent in Project Management and Logistic Support behind a desk.

Michael's interest in Memory and Learning began at
the very start of his naval career because he thought he had a bad memory! He discovered Memory Techniques and Mind Mapping and began using them very successfully as his naval career progressed.

Quite early on, he realised the need to tell others about the benefits of knowing how to learn. To prove what was possible he entered the World Memory Championships in 1997, coming 5th, and then in 1998 he won the Silver Medal and became a Grand Master of Memory.

This prompted much interest from the media and as a result he has appeared in the Times, the Daily Mail, BBC News South West, Sky News, BBC Radios Shropshire, Bristol and Leeds, and GLR, as well as featuring on Channel 4's The Big Breakfast, Nickelodeon TV, Amazing People and Talk Radio.

Michael left the Royal Navy in 1999 and now teaches Mental Literacy (Mind Mapping, Speed Reading, Memory Skills, Creative Thought and Accelerated Learning) and its application to Business and Education. His company,
Life Skills Programmes Ltd, now provides a variety of courses and services. His wife Julie is a very important part of his support team and he admits that his success to date would not have been possible without her.

Michael is an accomplished juggler and when he is not writing for Project HappyChild, organising the World Memory Championships, running his business or 'being a good husband' he spends the rest of his time trying to work out how to pack even more things into his already busy schedule!
